My First Silicone Piece

I just started working on doing my first silicone piece. Had a few issues along the way, but no a bad casting for my first piece. Here are some pics for anyone interested in trying it or those experienced in silicone to give me some helpful tips.

unfortunately my first coat of epoxAcoat red didn't set up right. I tried to measure it out by weight but had better luck with measuring by volume. Anyway i was able to save the face.

cleaned off the clay wall and applied wax


and vaseline


two coats on the front and free form air



Finished mold


and here is my first casting, foam filled. I need to work on trying to get it a little thicker and a more even coverage with a smoother color. Also need to get the seamline thicker.
I did two coats on each side, then put the mold together and added some to the seam line.

2nd casting came out way better. This one i brushed in 3 layers of silicone. added thi-vex thickener to layers 2 and 3, then put the mold together and did a batch of silicone for the seam.

Now i have to learn how to seam silicone and then i can start painting.
