Spam Accounts

Obviously I\'m not the only one noticing the 2000% increase in spam accounts popping up on the forum lately. There seems to be like 5 new ones each day. Just curious as to how this happens. Is it even possible for an account to become active without approval? Is someone just trigger happy on the "Approval" button" :laugh: ? It\'s kind of a shame really. The forum is quiet enough, then to see these sh*t posts in people\'s threads.

we are actively working on it brother. i spend at least 30 minutes a day banning and deleting accounts. i don\'t even approve anyone anymore, seems like if you do its SPAM. it seem to get under control for a while then BAM they kill us with this crap. it is being worked on brother, stick with us. in the mean time.....back to banning....theres another and another......

My offer stands as well on helping to clean up this mess. I have the time at certain parts of the day and will gladly be willing to go in and delete spam posts and accounts as needed. I love this place immensely and hate to see it getting pummeled with such offensively ridiculous abuse.

is it possible to implement a random number generator that the user has to enter when signing up? If they enter it incorrectly then the account does not go through? If the board is not able to do that then at least have some sort of instructions that state they need to fill out a text box with predetermined text so the mods will know at a glance what accounts to approve and what to deny. A buddy of mine tried for months to sign up and was finally just recently approved.
It seems like it would be bad for the board if we just denied everyone. I have lots of web experience and programming experience and would be able to assist in developing if needed.

We have a temporary dam in place for stopping all bots from signing up anymore, and we\'re all working on banning the few remaining that got through and deleting their posts as they appear.
A random number/captcha generator is in the works, Jeff should be implementing that and we\'ll be done with this garbage. Thanks for the understanding and patience guys!
